Introduction

example of animated adYou've been asked to make an animated Web advertisement.  People will only look at an ad for a few seconds, so your ad should be eye-catching and easy to read with a quickly paced animation.  Your best bet is to keep the message simple (like a billboard) and try to include something to get people to click. Your final advertisement should be no larger than 700 pixels wide and 200 pixels high so it can fit at the top of a Web page or within a 200-pixel side column (smaller is better).

Fireworks CS5 includes templates for Flash Banners that will give you a starting point for size. See File -> New from Template -> Document Presets -> Flash banners.png

What to Do

  1. Research ads on the web. Take a look at these gif animation examples. What gets your attention? What is annoying? Pick a banner ad and share the URL and a brief review on the Moodle discussion or in class.

  2. Pick a topic and sketch out a rough draft that of your layout and message.

  3. Use Fireworks to make an animated ad. Your banner ad should include text, vector and/or bitmap graphics, and animation. If necessary, review the Lynda.com training (6. Animating in Fireworks)

  4. If the animated part of your ad is small, you can put it in a slice to make download time faster.

  5. Export your ad (images and html) to a folder called "ad" in your local_root folder under 217projects and upload it to the studentweb server.

  6. Open your homework page and link to your ad html page.

Submitting work

To turn this in, make a link to your ad page from 217portfolio.htm. Upload your work to the studentweb server and submit your URL to Moodle.
