Lab 1: Flash Introduction

This group activity gives you a chance to get to know Flash and your classmates. See the instructions and turn your work in to your teacher in class.

Lab 2: Drawing

Use Flash Drawing tools to create a simple scene that depicts something you did during the summer. Your scene should include shapes, layers, groups, and modified fills or strokes. See work from past students for inspiration.

Use WebCT to turn in your .fla file.

Lab 3: Frame Animation

Use Frame animation to create a simple animation that includes your name. See work from past students for inspiration.

Lab 4: Shape Tweening

Create an animation that demonstrates shape tweening. Include at least three techniques described in your textbook (change shape text, position, size, color, gradient, etc.).

Lab 5: Banner Ad

The CIS department Web site needs an animation in the upper right that features students, classes, degree programs, etc. Create a 160 x 114 pixel animation that displays text, vector graphics, and bitmaps. I will post photos for you to use or you may use your own. You may use frame animation, shape tweening, and motion tweening.

If you wish, you may create a banner ad for something else.  Dimensions should be approximately 600 x 100.

You will be graded according to requirements (20 points), technique (10 points), and appearance (10 points).

Lab 6: Buttons

Create a movie with 3 original, attractive rollover buttons (15 points) that play short rollover sounds (10 points). At least one should be an animated rollover button (10 points) and one should link to a Web site (5 points). See work from past students for inspiration, but make sure you do everything requested this semester.

Lab 7: Actions

Create a movie with 3 different animation sequences and 3 buttons that go to the different sequences. For practice, make your own buttons.

Don't worry too much about creating a dazzling animation this time. just practice making frame labels and frame and object actions.

Lab 8: Drop-down menu

Create a simple drop-down menu interface.  The menu should appear on mouseover or mouse click, and the menu should include at least 3 working buttons.

Lab 9: Sounds

Create a movie with 3 buttons that play 3 different sounds when you click the buttons. At least one sound must be in the timeline (button goes to the frame with the sound) One sound must be musical and one should be recorded by you.  Be sure to include "Stop All Sounds" actions to keep sound from overlapping.

The buttons should also play short feedback sounds on rollover.

Lab 10: Seasonal Movie

Create a seasonal movie that includes sound. This can be for a holiday, a season, or other special event. If you are using a large sound file, be sure to include a preloader (see page 461).

Publish your file and upload your swf file to WebCT.

Lab 11: Special Effect (Extra Credit)

Research and implement a special effect using a book or one of the reference sites on the Flash Links page. Edit the HTML file to that it includes a paragraph that describes how you did your special effect. Publish your file and upload your html and swf files to WebCT.

Web Site Interface

Use Flash to create a Web site interface. Your site should include graphics, buttons, animations, and actions. You should have at least 5 "pages" with navigation to go from page to page. Your pages do not need to include well-developed content.

You may also suggest an alternative project.
