Introduction

What does it take to succeed in an online class?  In this assignment, you will work alone or with a partner or team to explore success factors and make a commitment to achieve your goals for the semester. 

What to Do

  1. Choose a partner or partners if you wish. 

  2. Read the Case Study and consider the questions at the end.  

  3. Participate in the Blackboard Online Success discussion. In the discussion, you will respond to ONE of the following:
    1. What do you think are the main reasons students give for dropping an online course?
    2. What online teacher behaviors do students think contribute to student success?
    3. What student behaviors do you think contribute most to success?
    4. Is there anything the COLLEGE can do to help improve student success?
    5. What role does orientation play in student success?
    6. What role does the syllabus play in student success?
    7. What role does communication play in student success?
    8. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using something like a case study with students?
    9. Discuss something related to student success that isn't mentioned here.

  4. Write a list of at least 3 SPECIFIC LEARNING GOALS.  For example, I hope to get ideas to make discussion more deep and ideas to simplify orientation.

  5. Write a list of at least 3 DESIRED EXPERIENCES in the class. For example, I want the class to be fun, interesting, and lively.

  6. Write a list of at least 3 COMMITTMENTS for yourself.  For example, I commit to checking Blackboard discussion 5 days a week.

  • Submit learning goals, desired experiences, and commitments to Blackboard Assignments.  You can either submit a Word document or use the comments box.

Grading - 40 points
